Free Malawi Cichlids
I've got tons of free Pseudotropheus Saulosi available for anyone who wants them.
These are a dwarf cichlid from lake Malawi. They do great in ABQ tap water. They need at least a 45+ gallon tank to be happy, and will mix well with most other mbuna.
PM me details about your setup or any questions. I want to make sure they go somewhere appropriate, so I may ask questions, but I'm pretty anxious to thin the herd a bit.
i wld b interested in a few i hav a 55 with several kenyi and several assorted mbunna 1 ob peecock u can reach me at 5054292672 if ud like to ask me anything
Conner, is it a 36 inch long 30 gallon tank or a 30 inch 29 gallon tank? I think a small group would probably do ok in the 36 inch tank. Probably more than 1m/2f though. I could give him a group of unsexed juveniles and let them grow out and form groups.
Adam, I'll try to give you a call this weekend.
Samuel,
My friend doesn't have a 30 gallon tank yet, right now he has a 10 gallon that's been running for about six months.
I'll try to steer him towards a 36" tank the next time I see him. They aren't super expensive at that size, are they?
Thanks for the help,
A 48 inch tank would be even better
I'd consider the 36" tank a bare minimum. Fish are really much easier to keep in a larger tank. There is less work involved both in getting them to get along with each other and also less maintenance to keep water quality high. With small tanks you have to really stay on top of them and a small mistake can lead to a wipe-out. Larger tanks give you a lot more leeway.
I completely agree, but space is really a limitation and his parents aren't exactly thrilled with the thought of such a large tank. We're working on convincing his mom and dad that bigger is better. I'll get back to you when he sets up a larger tank. Shoot I'll even try to get him to join the forum
Hello, I was wondering if you would willing to give me a few youngsters? I have some malawi cichlids in a 45g that i have. Theres about 10 of them in there now rangeing from about 3in to 4.5 in. Iv been slowly giving them to my friends so id like to put in some others. Im also glad to see that theres a local forum to talk to others. Im planing to start a planted 30g really soon too, so ill be looking for advise and some places for some plants. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Sure fastj. What species do you have in the tank currently? I just gave a bunch to alejgin, but still have quite a few left.
Im not sure what they are. They change color from pink to blue, sometimes they have stripes and sometimes they have none. I got them from a guy who said they are red top kimpuma. He gave me 21 of them but iv given some away to friends.
You can find more on them here: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1911
The only potential issue is that the males look somewhat similar to the Saulosi males, ie blue with dark vertical striping. You'd need to keep an eye on them and make sure things went well. Do you have plenty of rockwork?
Actually I could use some more hiding places in this tank. Where can i get some good rocks to put in there? Id like to find something cheap.
I just use landscaping rock, or rocks picked up in the foothills. Just make sure no chemicals have been used on them (pesticides, etc). I usually scrub them good and boil them before adding to a tank.
If you want to come by tomorrow and pick up some fish, send me a private message and I'll send you my address.

Hey Samuel,
I've got a friend who's starting to get more into the aquarium hobby, and he'd like to start an African cichlid tank in maybe a month or two. We both think that Pseudotropheus salousi would be a great fish because of its smaller size and great colors. Unfortunately space is an issue, and as of right now I don't think he could get as large a tank as you recomend. Do you think that a trio (1m/2f) would do well in a 30 gallon tank?
Thanks,
Connor
