I got a call today for my West African Lungfish (WAL). The man asked if WAL would go in a 55 gal. tank. I told him yes. He then asked me if WAL was compatible with his 5 Oscars. I told him sure, WAL will invite them to lunch. Then I told him that 5 Oscars were too many for a 55 gal. tank and that he should return 3 to 4 of the Oscars. He said no that the man at Petco said that the fish will only grow to the size of the tank. He bought the tank and Oscars at the same time. Urge to kill! Angry

Ya it would be nice if the people at petco and petsmart knew a little about what they are selling. Most people dont have any clue what they are getting into when they buy fish,I have aquired many cichlids because they start eating the other fish in the tank, "but they looked so pretty at the store" is most common answer I get. A little research goes a long way. Im glad to see that Im not the only one that feals this way!

I remember being in a PetSmart or some such store and a family walked in wanting fish. But they didn't want just any fish, they wanted the saltwater fish... of course... so they had to call in an "expert" to explain to these people why they could not take home those really pretty fish and put them in tap water. At least they did it; I was listening in with horror, ready to jump in if the clerks did not.

But the main reason I could never work in a pet store is because every two weeks, *I* would have to write *THEM* a check. Big smile

That is so true. My wife would kick me and my fish out. I have 4 tanks ( 45,55 65 and 125gal ) in the livingroom and 2 tanks ( both 29gal ) in the hallway, all are up and running. I also have more than a dozen tanks of various sizes and equiptment stored in the up stairs bedroom. Plus the ones in the storeroom and my 3,000gal pond.
